Lower mainland British Columbia has seen pockets of poverty arising in the suburbs (Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam, Surrey) while pockets of increased wealth have appeared in the downtown east side. The latter notorious for the worst social conditions in Canada for as long as anyone can remember.
