The job of anyone active against poverty and social injustice just got a bit easier thanks to Canada’s shock-jock contrarian and neoconservative mouthpiece Kevin O’Leary. The K-man made a mess on the carpet this week with his vehement defence of global poverty in the name of the entrepreneurship it will apparently foster. He was responding live to recent word from Oxfam that about 85 people hold wealth equal to the poorest 3.5 billion.
What a doozy. Kevin, once you say something you cannot un-say it. This is understood by most of us by the third grade. His producer has promised follow-up remarks and a wider consideration of global poverty but O’Leary’s position is quite clear: ignorant to the point of sociopathic.
Suburban-poverty.com hopes that the CBC Ombudsman’s office will censure him for his ignorance. Ideally this dinosaur’s day is close to over, at least in passing himself off as a business and current affairs journalist on an evening magazine-format program.
